Blog Switch

Jamie has convinced me to switch to blogging at a joint site that we are sending out with our thank you notes. So that's where I'll be blogging from now on. I'm mostly switching because it has unlimited free photos. Add it to your favorite list.

A professional musician

This morning as I carried Jamie's guitar up the stairs of our apartment complex (he was carrying heavier stuff) I realized, "Hm. I'm married to a professional musician." I felt cool.

Cornflake chicken

That's what I'm searching how to make - specifically without egg because I used my last egg the other day - baking cookies. Unfortunately the recipe called for 2 eggs so I looked up egg substitutes and used a banana in place of the other egg. Um yeah, not a good substitute. Jamie said they were like banana muffin chocolate chip cookies. I don't know whether to eat them for breakfast or dessert. But they're not the worst thing I've ever made. That would definitely be the meatloaf where I halved all the ingredients except the salt and the taco seasoning. It makes me want to gag thinking about it! :)

Ok I found a recipe here.

And now to tell you about my new job. I'm actually thoroughly enjoying it, even though its taking my "nerves" (LOL) - or emotions - a while to get over the stress of another change and getting up earlier in the morning. (If only I was disciplined enough to change my bedtime in accordance with the new wake-up time, I'm sure I would feel MUCH better!)

In case you (my adoring public ) haven't heard, I'm working as basically the insurance person for a small Christian dentist's office. There's one dentist, one orthodontic assistant (who basically does all the braces, etc.), two hygienists (at a time, but three who work all together), two dental assistants (same situation as the hygienists), the receptionist/scheduling person, and me. The orthodontic assistant also does all the finances for the office, except insurance stuff, taking payments, etc. Its a well-oiled machine (all the systems are set up, files are made, etc...and done well, too!), but very flexible, and a very comfortable place to work. Its slow paced in general, although it can get busy, but the ladies love to stand around and talk - especially about grandchildren. I and the orthodontic assistant are the only people who do NOT have children college age or over. And her kids are in middle school. But I have to say that all the baby talk just increases my longing for kids when the right time comes.

My job is basically to do the checkout of the patients (take their money, etc.), enter all the insurance and personal payments into the computer when they come in the mail(anywhere from 6-30/day I'd guess), file insurance claims, refile insurance claims, keep track of people's bills, figure out why the insurance won't pay on individual accounts, enter insurance information into our records, etc. I also answer the phone sometimes. Its pretty simple, although I have to say that insurance companies do not make their benefits particularly easy to understand or user-friendly. But its not taxing or exhausting and its complex enough that there are always problems to solve, which is kind of fun. Plus, the people are so laid-back and gracious...it really is the kind of environment where I thrive because I have freedom to figure out how to do my job with as much or as little help as I want, permission to ask any questions I need to and to make mistakes, and assistance in fixing my mistakes and learning when I need it.

Plus, I work Monday through Thursday. The hours are generally 7:45-5, although sometimes we work later because patients take longer and sometimes we get off earlier because patients don't take as long, or cancel last minute. We get a lunch break from 1-2 pm every day (again, subject to how long the appointments before lunch take). AND its right by the church where I worked before and near my parents' house, so I can have lunch with my mom and/or dad, go see my old outreach or youth peeps, chat with Tricia, or drive/walk over to the park for lunch. I really cherish that longer lunch break after months of rushing to get/heat food and eat it in a puny half hour lunch break. :)

So, that's my job in a nutshell. I like it. I miss the people at CCB, but I'm also working to try to keep up relationships with at least some of them. I talked to Becki today. I'm going over to Jessica's house on Saturday for her baby's first birthday party. I'm bringing cupcakes!

Now I just have to see if I can get everything else together. (Like, for example, my small group that I stink at leading, since I can never get us to meet!)

Now, I'm off to make cornflake chicken with tomato sauce, parmesan, and spaghetti! :)
